Articles about Japan
Just two links at the moment - one article about the Second World War, and an academic dissertation about breaking into the Japanese market.
No surrender
A
dispassionate look at some of the reasons Japanese fighting men refused to lay
down their arms, even when faced with insuperable odds. Written to accompany the
BBC Timewatch documentary The Last Surrender about Hiroo Onoda (seen,
left, on his ranch in Brazil in January 2001), the Japanese lieutenant who continued
fighting in the Philippines for 29 years after the end of the war. (Broadcast
in May 2001)
British foreign direct investment in Japan
A review of the opportunities and obstacles facing British companies setting up business operations in Japan following the collapse of the bubble economy. It concludes that while some of the previous barriers — such as keiretsu relationships and an immobile labour market — have eased considerably, cultural differences and cost still pose a significant problem. Written in early 2001 as the management project for an MBA at the University of Bradford.
